It’s been a busy last 24 hours for police in Ruddington – with residents reporting blue and red flashing lights darting in different directions across our village!
At just before 11 o’clock last night (Thursday 24th September), West Bridgford response officers took to social media to say they had seized an uninsured vehicle in Ruddington village centre – posting the photograph above of the offending car on Vicarage Lane. They revealed: “The driver has been reported for driving otherwise in accordance of a licence and driving with no insurance.”
However, it turned out that the night was yet young as, just over two hours later, some residents along the Packman Drive estate were rudely awoken by the commotion of a high speed police pursuit! One eyewitness says: “We’ve lived here for 25 years and it’s the first time that we have seen anything like it! The car they were chasing was driving so fast and dangerously – and it must have looped Rufford Rd/ Packman drive at least 3 times. At one point there were 4 police cars and a van at the top of Rufford, as well as the two cars giving chase. Very scary!”
Another, who lives on Rufford Road, adds: “I got a front seat! Luckily it was the middle of the night, so not really anybody around”.
An Abingdon Drive resident told RUDDINGTON.info: “It was just after 1am that we heard sirens from one of the police vehicles and then a car sped past my house with one police car in pursuit. A few minutes later it past us again at high speed in the opposite direction but this time with two police vehicles following. All cars were negotiating the streets around here really well considering how many cars are parked on them. About five minutes later we could see flashing lights coming off surrounding homes – and then they were gone.”
Nottinghamshire Police have confirmed to us that the pursuit began at around 1am from Dunkirk Island when Rushcliffe officers on patrol spotted a vehicle travelling at speed in the direction of Clifton.
The car failed to stop for the officers and headed in the direction of Ruddington, at one point turning its light off and mounting the grass verge on the A60. The vehicle eventually came to a stop on Ling Crescent, where a man was arrested. He has been charged with failing to stop, driving a motor vehicle with excess alcohol and driving with no insurance.
Rushcliffe Inspector, Craig Berry, says: “The car was driving dangerously around Clifton and Ruddington and it was very lucky no one was injured during the incident.”
He adds: “The vehicle has now been seized.”
